In 2022 Yourbrook entered into a memorandum of understanding with Tll Yaahda Energy (TYE), a partnership between the Skidegate Band Council and the Old Masset Village Council to develop renewable energy on Haida Gwaii with a focus on local ownership. Their long-term goal is to get Haida Gwaii off of diesel power generation and create a 100% renewable grid.

In addition, Yourbrook has received numerous letters of support from the local community including: The Council of the Haida Nation, the Skidegate Band Council, the Village of Queen Charlotte, the Village of Port Clements, the Village of Masset, and the Swiiliwiid Sustainability Society.

Alongside these letters of support, Yourbrook has also received a letter of support from BC Hydro indicating an openness to hold future discussions about the viability of the technology and an electricity purchase agreement for this project.

“We have a high regard for Yourbrook and the way they’ve conducted their business. They’ve done all the right things — they’ve come to the Haida Nation, they’ve come to the chiefs council, made sure things are okay and didn’t try to steamroll it through or anything. I can say that we’re 100 per cent behind their technology and want to wish them well in their endeavours.”

Frank Collison, Sithlda, Haida hereditary leader

“Swiilawiid supports community-based initiatives like Yourbrook’s… that will help us achieve energy independence.”
