Kamdis Tidal Power Project
-
What?
The Kamdis Tidal Power Project is a proposed 2MW renewable power project aimed at displacing diesel-generated electricity in remote off-grid communities of the Haida Gwaii archipelago. Yourbrook will use its innovative technology to provide firm power through a Distribution Generator Inter-connection to the BC Hydro North Grid. Phase 1 involves a 500 KW demonstration project to establish proof-of-concept of our technology on a commercial scale.
Ultimately, it is intended that the project will be co-owned by Yourbrook Energy Systems Ltd and the Haida Nation.

Why?
Within Canada, the population of Haida Gwaii generates one of the highest per capita carbon footprints due to the heavy reliance on diesel-generated electricity. The main objective of the Kamdis Tidal Power Project is to develop, build, manufacture, and deploy a renewable energy system that reduces the dependence of Haida Gwaii’s north grid on fossil fuels. The project has the potential to reduce CO2 emissions by 6,675 tonnes per year of operation of each 500KW module installed. At full scale the Kamdis project will reduce emissions by 38,401 tonnes per year.

Where?
The proposed project is situated on the unceded lands and waters of the Haida Nation on the east side of Masset Inlet, approximately 19 km south of Masset, 800 km northwest of Vancouver, and 150 km west of Prince Rupert, British Columbia. After evaluating four prototype testing sites, and in consultation with the Council of the Haida Nation, the selected site is on the western side of the highway, extending south from the mouth of Pure Creek to the tip of Kumdis Island. The BC Parks Conservancy land use plan for the area allows for tidal energy and hydro-electric power generation.
